David Chase's 1960s-set prequel to The Sopranos is becoming a movie
New Line has purchased the rights to The Many Saints of Newark, set in the era of the Newark race riots of the 1960s, when blacks and Italians "were at each other's throats." Among the characters featured in the film are Tony Soprano's father and younger versions of his mom Livia and Uncle Junior. Chase will serve as co-writer and producer, and he'll help select the director.
