Penn Badgley calls out "privileged-a** white" actors who take on roles that should go to marginalized actors
“In reality, we have basically, like, privileged-a** white people playing everybody, and so we need to stop that," the You star tells Pink News when asked about controversies over non-trans actors taking on trans roles and white actors playing non-white roles. "In theory, in a totally just society, yeah, anybody can play anybody and that would be great,” he says. "But that’s not the world we live in. We live in a world that does not recognize virtually anyone outside of the white male or the beautiful white woman who has to be an object of desire and affection.”
