Why is the director of ESPN's This Was The XFL documentary creating a direct rival to the XFL?
Charlie Ebersol is founder of the Alliance of American Football, which was announced yesterday, and he also directed the 30 for 30 documentary on the downfall of Vince McMahon's XFL that his dad, Dick Ebersol, put on NBC. What's odd, says David Bixenspan, is that many of Charlie Ebersol's AAF ideas are similar to McMahon's plans for the XFL revival. Which begs the question: Was the founding of the AAF in any way connected to the founding of the new XFL?
- XFL announces the eight cities that will make up its rebooted football league
- Vince McMahon plans to spend $500 million for the first three seasons of the new XFL
- CBS Sports signs on to broadcast a new eight-team pro football league
- Vince McMahon would ban players with “any criminality” from the XFL, but why doesn’t he hold WWE to the same standard?
