HBO renews Last Week Tonight With John Oliver for three more seasons, through 2026
Today's pickup will take John Oliver's Emmy-winning late-night show through its 13th season. “Over the past decade, John and his exceptional team have combined deep research and intelligence with cutting humor to tackle a broad range of subjects, both widely discussed and unconventional.” said HBO and Max boss Casey Bloys in a statement. “With an important election year on the horizon, we look forward to seeing what John has in store for audiences over the next three years.” John Oliver added: “We’re very happy to get to keep making this show with our fantastic staff. We will continue trying to stretch the term ‘entertainment’ to the breaking point.” Last Week Tonight, currently in its 10th season, would've normally wrapped up its season before Thanksgiving. But because of the writers' strike, Last Week Tonight will continue producing new episodes through Dec. 17.
Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly to lead Netflix's romantic drama series Ransom Canyon
Writer April Blair is adapting Jodi Thomas’ Ransom Canyon romantic book series for TV. "Also following the blueprint of Virgin River, headlined by Martin Henderson and Alexandra Breckenridge, Ransom Canyon has a duo of well known TV stars with fan following as its romantic leads in Duhamel and Kelly," says Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, adding that Ransom Canyon is "a romance-fueled family drama and contemporary western saga that charts the intersecting lives of three ranching families, all set against the rugged expanse of Texas Hill Country."
Kevin Hart to host a Manningcast-style alternate broadcast for the NBA’s new in-season tournament
NBA Unplugged with Kevin Hart, from Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and Hart’s Hartbeat production company, will air on ESPN2 on Dec. 9. Hart will be joined by the Plastic Cup Boyz: Joey Wells, Will Horton and Na’im Lynn with special guest appearances from athletes and celebrities.
Apple TV+ renews Foundation for Season 3
The renewal of the Isaac Asimov adaptation comes nearly three months after the Season 2 finale. “I’m thrilled Apple has given us the opportunity to continue chronicling Asimov’s pioneering galactic saga," said showrunner and executive producer David S. Goyer. "This time, the stakes for Foundation and Empire are even higher as the Mule takes center stage, along with fan-favorites Bayta,Toran, Ebling, and Magnifico Giganticus."
Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake renewed for Season 2
Max's renewal of the Adventure Time spinoff comes two months after showrunner Adam Muto told Variety that he was unsure of its future, saying: “It’s in discussion. But the person who greenlit the first season is no longer at Max...My hope is that this series did well enough that they feel like they can invest in future seasons."

Sia to executive produce reality show The Journey, described as “the first make-over show that uses music instead of make-up"
The Australian-born singer-songwriter will serve as an executive producer, bringing her musical expertise to the potential reality show. "In each episode, the spotlight will shine on two unknown guests and one celebrity coach," per Deadline. "The focal point will be a specific mental health topic shared by the guests and the celebrity coach and a transformative experience will unfold over four days at The Journey Ranch, guided by the Brothers Koren, a pop folk duo. Together, they will confront fears and craft an original song based on their life stories alongside the brothers. The culmination of the guests’ stay will be a live performance in front of family and friends, hoping to break through barriers and leave an indelible mark on their personal journeys."

The fired GMA3: What You Need to Know co-anchors, who released the first episode of their iHeartRadio podcast called Amy & T.J. today, said they've been living separately from their respective spouses before news of their relationship went public, according to People. “Nov. 30, 2022, was the day that we were, and this is very important we were outed… To be clear, we were outed as being in a relationship, but everyone else thought we were being outed as adulterers — being outed as cheating on our spouses — and it wasn’t the case because the odd thing is, the day those pictures were taken and the day that article was released, we both at that point were in divorce proceedings," said Holmes. “Yes, we had attorneys, mediators. We were in the middle of divorces,” Robach added. Roback also recalled fearing that Holmes had committed suicide after their GMA firing when he started sending her alarming texts in the past tense. “The best way to sum us up, Amy and T.J., is that we’re the folks who lost the jobs we love because we love each other,” Holmes said, adding that he’s the “happiest and healthiest that I’ve been in my life” and that “I’m in love with this woman and she’s in love with me and we are planning a life together.”

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest has replaced Liza Koshy and Ciara with Rita Ora and Jeannie Mai for its 52nd edition. New Year's Rockin' Eve also decided to scrap the Central Time zone countdown from New Orleans that had been part of the show since 2017.
