Hulu picks up Will & Grace creators’ Nathan Lane-Matt Bomer comedy Mid-Century Modern
The pickup for the multicamera sitcom from Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, also starring Nathan Lee Graham and Linda Lavin, comes less than two months after Hulu ordered the pilot and four weeks after the pilot was filmed. "The very quick decision making — especially by Disney standards — is not that surprising. In addition to an A-list creative team in front and behind the camera, the pilot has been enjoying a very strong word of mouth internally that kicked into high gear after the table read," reports Deadline's Nellie Andreeva. Mid-Century Modern "follows three best friends (Lane, Bomer, Graham) — gay gentlemen of a certain age – who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs where the wealthiest one, Bunny Schneiderman (Lane), lives with his mother, Sybil (Lavin)," per the official description. "As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you it would be better if you got your neck done."
Netflix taps medium Tyler Henry to host a weekly live series Live From the Other Side
Premiering Sept. 17 and streaming every Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET with 45-minute episodes, Live From the Other Side will follow Henry "as he gives celebrity guests hope, healing and long sought-after answers through emotional readings that showcase his gifts as a medium, clairvoyant and medical intuitive," per Netflix. “Not even I could’ve predicted that I’d be doing a LIVE show on Netflix! I am super humbled and grateful for the opportunity. I know the skepticism that comes with mediums — and this project will let me lean into that in an honest and unedited way, demonstrating high-stakes readings in real time,” Henry, who previously hosted E!'s Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry, said in a statement. “My goal is for this live format to open some minds and change some lives. This project is my biggest, most interactive yet and I can’t wait for you all to join me on Sept. 17.”

Paramount Television Studios to shut down after 11 years as part of Paramount Global cutbacks
Paramount Television Studios, which launched in 2013, has been home to shows such as Reacher, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Time Bandits, The Spiderwick Chronicles, 13 Reasons Why, Station Eleven and The Alienest. Ongoing shows will move to CBS Studios. "Paramount Television marked the second time Paramount Pictures tried to move into the TV business — separate from the storied shingle that was built on the Desilu production studio founded by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz," explains Variety's Brian Steinberg. "That studio, which backed such TV treasures as I Love Lucy and Star Trek, eventually became the center of Paramount Studios after an acquisition by Gulf + Western, and would be inherited by CBS after its split from the company formerly known as Viacom Inc. in 2005."
