Peter Dinklage joins Dexter: Resurrection
The Emmy-winning former Game of Thrones star will become a series regular on Showtime's Dexter sequel series, playing Leon Prater, a billionaire venture capitalist. "To the world, Leon is a generous philanthropist, but behind his polished exterior lies dark intrigue," according to Deadline, which adds that Dinklage's role is the "big baddy of the season. Leon will work closely alongside Charley (Uma Thurman), his head of security. A former Special Ops officer, Charley worked various high-level private security jobs before taking on her position as Prater’s resourceful and meticulous right-hand woman." Dexter: Resurrection marks Dinklage's first series regular role since Game of Thrones ended in 2019.
Amy Adams to co-star opposite Javier Bardem in Apple TV+'s Cape Fear series
The 10-episode series from Nick Antosca, Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg is described as a tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century, based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners. In Cape Fear, per Deadline, "a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Amanda (Adams) and Steve Bowden when Max Cady (played by Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison."
The Big Bang Theory’s John Ross Bowie to reprise his Barry Kripke role in Max spinoff
Bowie is joining fellow alums Kevin Sussman, Brian Posehn and Lauren Lapkus in the Big Bang offshoot from co-creator Chuck Lorre. "Since the project is still in development and has not been officially greenlighted, Bowie — just like Sussman, Posehn and Lapkus — has signed a WBTV talent holding deal with the purpose of starring in the proposed offshoot," reports Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, noting that Barry Kripke quickly became a fan favorite with his introduction in Season 2.
David Letterman and John Oliver return to their old late-night stomping grounds
Letterman was back at 30 Rock Monday in a surprise appearance to roast Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, which had his bandleader Paul Shaffer filling in for Questlove. Fallon's Tonight Show tapes in Studio 6B, across the hall from Studio 6A, where Letterman taped Late Night for 11 years. On The Daily Show, Oliver returned to troll Jon Stewart and America. "Looks like nostalgia is breaking out all over late-night this week: SNL’s 50th anniversary special and accompanying music concert are set for the weekend, and just to start things off Monday night: Old Host Week!" says Bill Carter. "Over on The Daily Show, it was the one shining fill-in moment host, John Oliver, coming back to pour historically vandalized tea in the wounds of current (part-time) host Jon Stewart, who was trying to illustrate the roll back to an era—signified by period-appropriate fake mustaches on Stewart—when kids worked in sweatshops and which Donald Trump believes America was at its greatest. The bit turned into an interruption from Oliver, the native Brit (he got US citizenship long ago), gloating about America’s tilt back toward monarchy based on its current rejection of its 'wild teen-years’ experiment with your ridiculous ideas of check and balances.' And on The Tonight Show, David Letterman, once a favorite guest host and ultimate jilted successor to Johnny Carson, was slapping current host Jimmy Fallon around with tortillas."
Sean Bean boards MGM+'s Robin Hood series as the notorious sheriff of Nottingham
According to the official description, “this vision of the Sheriff of Nottingham is unique: a statesman, a strategist, and a builder of Nottingham itself. A loving father, a politician, and cousin to King Henry II. He navigates the dangerous tides of power, facing not only an outlaw in the woods but also the ambitions of Eleanor of Aquitaine and the Norman Barons that surround him. Cunning and pragmatic, he is a man who rules with an iron hand, not out of cruelty, but an unshakable belief that the law, as Normans see it, must be preserved.”
