CBS: We "hope" The Big Bang Theory runs at least two more years

CBS executives said this morning they are not ready to say goodbye to their biggest hit next season. "As long as (co-creator) Chuck (Lorre) and his team think they have stories tell, we're on board," CBS senior executive vice president Thom Sherman told reporters. "We hope to get at least two more years out of them. (The Big Bang Theory) is not slowing down anytime soon." CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl pointed out that Season 11 had the same ratings as Season 10. With performance like that, “we are hopeful that there will be more” seasons of Big Bang beyond the upcoming 12th,” Kahl said, adding: “We can take a few more seasons.”
Mad About You revival could end up on CBS
“It has been pitched; it is still being discussed,” says CBS Entertainment senior executive vice president Thom Sherman of the network's discussion with Sony TV Studios, which has signed Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt to reprise their famous NBC roles. According to TV Line, the revival "would revolve around Paul and Jamie grappling with empty-nest syndrome in the wake of now-17-year-old daughter Mabel’s admission to college."

Murphy Brown will host a morning show called Murphy in the Morning on the rebooted comedy. Her son, played by Jake McDormand, will be her biggest competitor as host a conservative morning news show. CBS said Morning Joe and Fox & Friends are a fitting comparison. “We fully expect a lot of people are going to come to (Murphy Brown),” said CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl. “We felt… this could be a great piece to make this block the strongest on TV.”
Epix orders new Batman prequel series Pennyworth from Gotham showrunner

The origin story of Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne's best friend and butler, will be told on Pennyworth, which has received a 10-episode straight-to-series order at Epix. Although Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller will lead the new Batman prequel, it is not a Gotham spinoff.
CBS' fall schedule: Murphy Brown lands on Thursdays, Magnum P.I. to Mondays
CBS is shaking up its Monday lineup, opening the night with comedies The Neighborhood and Happy Together, followed by Magnum P.I. at 9 p.m. and Bull. CBS' Thursday slot will stay largely intact, with Murphy Brown airing at 9:30 p.m. after Mom. God Friended Me will air on Sundays at 8 p.m.

“Creatively, the show made a choice at the beginning of last year,” said CBS Entertainment senior executive vice president Thom Sherman. “We agreed to go along with it and unfortunately the audience didn’t respond to it.” CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl cited "the numbers" in deciding to cancel the Kevin James series. “It was a strong show for us, it’s had a lot of decline this year, it was heading in the wrong direction," said Kahl. "The numbers were going down as the year went on and looking forward, it didn’t look like a show that was going to be strong enough to anchor a night for us going forward.”
TNT's The Last Ship will indeed end with Season 5
TNT and TBS president Kevin Reilly confirms The Last Ship will end with Season 5. Last fall, cast member Travis Van Winkle let slip the news when he reminisced on Instagram about wrapping the show in a post he later deleted. At the time, TNT said, "we greenlit the fifth with the idea that it could be the final season, however it’s far too early to make that determination.”
CBS says it will win the season in total viewers despite NBC airing Super Bowl and the Winter Olympics
NBC is still set to win the season in the key 18-49 demo. But NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said last summer: "I think we will be No. 1 in both the demo and in total viewers next year, which is something we haven’t accomplished since 2002."
CBS says "we're feeling good about our diversity" next season
CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl noted that new series God Friended Me, The Neighborhood, FBI, Happy Together and Magnum P.I. all have people of color in leading roles. “We sat in front of a lot of you at (Television Critics Association press tour) and said that we were going to do it,” Kahl said. “I think quite frankly there were a lot of eye rolls, and I think if you look at the schedule, we did what we said we were going to do.”
TBS boss: "I never even got the chance" last week to save Brooklyn Nine-Nine
TBS and TNT president Kevin Reilly was in charge at Fox in 2013 when he originally picked up Brooklyn Nine-Nine to series. But despite talk of TBS as a potential landing spot for the show after its Fox cancelation, Reilly says, “I never even got the chance” to make a bid.
Serial's Adnan Syed will be the subject of an HBO documentary

The Case Against Adnan Syed will, over the course of four hours, explore the 1999 disappearance and murder of Hae Min Lee and the conviction of her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed, a case that became famous in 2014 thanks to the Serial podcast. Oscar nominee Amy Berg is directing the documentary, which has been in the works since 2015.
