A+E Networks canceled its Project Runway deal in wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal
Project Runway's future is in limbo. According to Variety, A+E Networks (Lifetime's parent company) scrapped its deal with The Weinstein Company to air two more seasons of Project Runway following Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct scandal. According to a filing revealed Tuesday, A+E Networks "unilaterally canceled the deal on Jan. 10" on grounds that Weinstein's misconduct was a breach of contract. "A+E Networks’ move leaves the show’s future in doubt," reports Gene Maddaus. "The popular series is one of the key assets of the Weinstein Co. bankruptcy estate, and the break with A+E Networks creates some uncertainty about its value. A+E would like to acquire the program, either through bankruptcy or after the sale of the Weinstein assets, and is said to be in negotiations with Lantern Capital over the future seasons."
