Adult Swim announces a Blade Runner anime series
Blade Runner-Black Lotus will take place in 2032 using some of the established characters from the Blade Runner universe. It will consist of 13 half-hour episodes and be mostly connected to the recent Blade Runner 2049 film. Shinichiro Watanabe, who wrote and directed three Blade Runner anime shorts, will helm the new series. “I first saw Blade Runner in 1982, at age 11,” said Jason DeMarco, senior vice president and creative director at Adult Swim. “It has remained one of the defining films of my life. To be able to explore more of this universe, with the incredible talent we have on board, is a dream come true.” Blade Runner-Black Lotus will air as part of Adult Swim's anime programming block, Toonami.

Adult Swim unveils the disturbing trailer for stop-motion series The Shivering Truth
The Shivering Truth, from Wonder Showzen co-creator Vernon Chatman, is described as “a miniature propulsive omnibus clusterbomb of painfully riotous daymares, all dripping with the orange goo of dream logic” with a “series of loosely-linked emotional parables about stories within tales that crawled out of the deepest caverns of your unconscious mind and became lovingly animated in breath-slapping stop motion—in other words, it is the TRUTH.”

A scientist got his fake Rick and Morty study published in three academic journals
Farooq Ali Khan, a PhD student and undergraduate professor in Hyderabad, India, created the fake paper based on the Adult Swim series to highlight the problem with predatory academic journals that publish junk science without a second glance. He titled his paper "Newer Tools to Fight Inter-Galactic Parasites and Their Transmissibility in Zyrgion Simulation," and submitted it using the author Beth Smith's name, based on the Rick and Morty character. “The fake science, fake news epidemic is getting worse by every day, and I really wanted to do something about it,” Ali Khan told Motherboard of getting the research published in three academic journals. “There's a lot of money involved in it and these people are getting more powerful, and several mediocre science papers are being published, which is a severe threat to science (and) academic research.”

Dan Harmon apologizes for "distasteful" 2009 baby doll rape video -- Adult Swim calls sketch "offensive" but won't reprimand him
The Rick and Morty co-creator, who deleted his Twitter account after the old video resurfaced during Comic-Con following James Gunn's firing from Disney's Guardians of the Galaxy, said in his apology: "In 2009, I made a ‘pilot’ which strove to parody the series Dexter and only succeeded in offending. I quickly realized the content was way too distasteful and took the video down immediately. Nobody should ever have to see what you saw and for that, I sincerely apologize." Adult Swim released its own statement saying, while it found the video offensive, Harmon won't be punished for the resurfaced video. “At Adult Swim, we seek out and encourage creative freedom and look to push the envelope in many ways, particularly around comedy,” the cable network said. “The offensive content of Dan’s 2009 video that recently surfaced demonstrates poor judgement and does not reflect the type of content we seek out. Dan recognized his mistake at the time and has apologized. He understands there is no place for this type of content here at Adult Swim.”

Back to the Future's Christopher Lloyd would like to lend his voice to Rick and Morty
"I've seen a few episodes and I gotta tell you, I think it's a lot of fun," Lloyd said in an interview with the Phoenix New Times. "I know it's some kind of parody of Doc and Marty." The origins of Rick and Morty do indeed trace back to a short film by series co-creator Justin Roiland that spoofed Lloyd's Doc Brown character and Michael J. Fox's Marty McFly.

“We‘re super excited that, for the first time ever, we’re locked in, we know what the future is, we have job security,” Roiland said of Adult Swim's recent 70-episode renewal. He added that co-creator Dan Harmon "is in great spirits, we have a great writer’s room. We want the episodes to stay good, but we do also want to try to turn them around a little quicker now that we have this big order, I think it gives us the ability to be faster. We’re not going to do these long breaks, these chasms in between seasons anymore. We’re going to schedule vacation time and just keep the machine going. It’s going to be really cool.”
