Condoleezza Rice is baffled by the NCAA decision to allow college basketball star Arike Ogunbowale to compete on Dancing with the Stars
The former secretary of state currently serves as chair of the Commission on College Basketball, which is trying to solve college basketball's issues, such as whether to allow college athletes to profit off of their names. The NCAA granted a special waiver to Notre Dame's Arike Ogunbowale to compete on Dancing, saying that her appearance on the show had nothing to do with her basketball abilities. "I couldn’t for the life of me understand the explanation,” said Rice, “because obviously she’s there because she hit two winning shots in two basketball games (in the women’s Final Four), so that’s the connection.”

Notre Dame college basketball star Arike Ogunbowale had to go through "lawyering" to appear on Dancing with the Stars
College athletes are forbidden from profiting from their names and likenesses, so the NCAA has forbidden Ogunbowale from appearing in promotional material for the ABC reality show, including commercials. She wasn't even allowed to appear in the Good Morning America formal announcement of the all-athlete edition.
