The CW orders Batwoman pilot starring Ruby Rose
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
The pilot order comes six months after The CW revealed a Batwoman TV series was in the works and weeks after Rose made her debut in the Arrowverse "Elseworlds" crossover. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Batwoman "was widely expected to be picked up to pilot and remains a front-runner for a series order given the auspices attached (and that The CW's Arrow, now in season seven, has begun to show its age)." Batwoman would mark the first-ever superhero series led by a lesbian character, played by the openly gay Rose. The pilot will be directed by Game of Thrones director David Nutter, who helmed the pilots for The Flash and Arrow. Here's the official logline: "Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane (Rose) soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope."

Ruby Rose is the victim of a "left-wing harassment campaign" over her Batwoman casting
Source: The Daily Beast
"Shockingly, the predictable backlash to Ruby Rose’s recently announced casting appears to actually be coming from inside the house—from fans who seem to love the idea of an out actress playing Kate Kane, but want more from their trailblazing lesbian superhero," explains Amy Zimmerman of casting the lesbian Rose in the The CW role. She adds: "Recurring sentiments appear to be that Batwoman should be played by a Jewish lesbian, and that the role would have been a great opportunity to elevate new talent. Sample tweets include, 'Ruby is great... But she is not the only queer actress out there' and 'JEWISH LESBIAN CHARACTER SHOULD BE PLAYED BY A JEWISH LESBIAN." Zimmerman points out that users of the #RecastBatwoman hashtag on Twitter have rallied around another actress, Ashley Platz, whose Batwoman audition tape has been widely circulated.

Ruby Rose deletes her Twitter account following backlash over her Batwoman casting
All kinds of criticism have been leveled against Rose since she was cast in The CW role last week, from arguments that she's not Jewish like the character Kate Kane, or that she's the wrong kind of LGBTQ member for the role, or that she isn't a good enough actress. “Where on earth did ‘Ruby is not a lesbian therefore she can’t be Batwoman’ come from — has to be the funniest most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read,” she tweeted. “I came out at 12? And have for the past 5 years had to deal with ‘she’s too gay’ how do y’all flip it like that? I didn’t change.”

Batman isn't coming to The CW

“There’s no discussion about a series," CW president Mark Pedowitz said at the TV press tour. Why Batwoman is perfect for The CW's Arrowverse
The Kate Kane character brings more of a supernatural element "rather than the street-level fights that we’ve seen so much of on the CW," says Evan Valentine. "Batwoman fights werewolves, vampires, and other kooky supernatural threats on the regular, spawning from the 'Religion of Crime' and all the strange, darker sides of Gotham. With her military training, and her father still watching her back and mentoring her, there’s a lot there to explore in a new series."
