Report: Beverly Hills, 90210 "reboot" isn't a reboot -- it's a "mockumentary-style dramedy"
The TV series that alumni of the classic teen drama were shopping around last month is, according to TV Line's Michael Ausiello, "an hour-long mockumentary-style dramedy that would find former 90210 cast members Jennie Garth, Jason Priestley, Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering, Brian Austin Green and Gabrielle Carteris playing themselves — albeit in a somewhat heightened state. The potential series — which was first rumored last March — would chronicle the gang’s efforts to get (another) 90210 revival off the ground."

Beverly Hills, 90210's original stars are shopping a reboot
Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering and Brian Austin Green were spotted having coffee today in photos obtained by TMZ. "Our sources say the 90210 alums and a couple writers and producers met with execs at Netflix, Amazon and Hulu to pitch the idea of bringing the 'Bev Hills' drama back to TV ... almost 30 years after it all began," says TMZ, adding: "No word if other series stars Luke Perry or Shannen Doherty are involved in the project, but with the massive successes of other '90s reboots lately ... they might want to call their agents." Spelling first let slip that a reboot was in the works in an Instagram post in March. Deadline's Nellie Andreeva further reports: "I hear the scripted project, from CBS TV Studios, features the actors reprising their characters two decades later but is not a traditional reboot. I hear the new Beverly Hills, 90210 comes from writers/executive producers Mike Chessler and Chris Alberghini, who worked on the CW’s 90210 reboot and on Spelling’s series So Notorious, as well as CBS TV Studios-based Ghen Maynard who has a relationship with Spelling and Garth and executive produces the new series."

Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling are working on a new show "based loosely" on Beverly Hills, 90210
People reports that "the show is in development with CBS and will feature Spelling and Garth, 45, playing exaggerated version of themselves. Although the series does not yet have a name, both women attended development meetings about the dramedy on Friday at the CBS Studio Center Lot near Los Angeles." TV Line further reports that the project is set at CBS Television Studios, which owns the rights to the 90210 franchise. Spelling hinted at the project on Instagram over the weekend, using hashtags: “#back2work great creative day yesterday with my #partnerincrime @jenniegarth #90210vibes #donnaandkellyforver #besties.” Garth and Spelling last appeared together in Mystery Girls, an ABC Family comedy that ran 10 episodes in summer 2014.

“I think that both of those characters were almost caricatures because one of them was way too good and the other one was written way too bad and I don’t think that those type of characters exist — ever,” the actor tells Us Weekly. “I think we live in a world of shades of gray. I think those two characters were written way too black and white.”
