Bobby Brown sues Showtime and BBC over Whitney Houston documentary
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
The singer is seeking $2 million on behalf of him and the estate of late daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown. The lawsuit alleges that Nick Broomfield's 2017 film Whitney: Can I Be Me uses footage of Brown and his late daughter without permission. "The film contains footage that Brown and BKB has never consented to have released," the lawsuit states. "Brown and BKB appear in the film for a substantial period of time, in excess of thirty (30) minutes. The footage was actually recorded prior to the divorce in 2007 between Brown and Houston. Brown never signed or executed a release for the airing of the material that appears in the film. The footage of Brown is approximately fifteen (15) years old."

BET's The Bobby Brown Story allowed Bobby Brown to rewrite his troubled narrative
Source: The Muse
The two-part BET miniseries, made with Brown's significant involvement, is "a classic example of an artist using their own license to rewrite a contentious public narrative," says Clover Hope. She adds: "For the subjects involved, the self-produced biopic is a kind of unobstructed release of their side of the truth, which is unfortunate for the people in their lives who aren’t around to dispute it. For the viewer, it’s a nostalgic, intimate (and debatable) encyclopedia that gives us both tough and light moments, including the best one from Part 2 of The Bobby Brown Story—a reenactment of a classic scene (Whitney in a visor and Bobby in tiny glasses dancing together in a hotel) from the classic 2005 reality show Being Bobby Brown, which as a friend of mine joked 'put Bravo on the map.'"

Bobby Brown on The Bobby Brown Story: "I'm grateful that I'm able to tell my story to my kids and let them watch it with me"
"Hopefully people will take away that they didn't know me at all," says Brown, who was consulted on the BET miniseries. "They thought they knew what I been through and what I am. But they don't know how I got to that point. This movie will show them how I got to the downfall and how I picked myself back up. That's the great part.” ALSO: Twitter has been losing its mind over The Bobby Brown Story.

BET's The Bobby Brown Story tries to redeem Bobby Brown from public villainy
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
"Following the release of three Whitney films since 2015 and even a vulturous TV biopic about the tragic life of daughter Bobbi Kristina, ex-husband and singer Bobby Brown is now clearly asking, 'What About Bobby?'" says Robyn Bahr. "BET's cheaply made (though endlessly watchable) miniseries The Bobby Brown Story unfortunately comes off as a different kind of #MeToo story — one that posits, 'What if abusers were the true victims all along?'"

Bobby Brown denies abusing Whitney Houston while promoting the BET miniseries on his life in the hotel where she died
Source: Entertainment Weekly
Brown had a tense press conference this morning at the Beverly Hilton hotel, where the Television Critics Association press tour is being held and where his late ex-wife Whitney Houston drowned in a bathtub in 2012. "The spirit of my ex-wife is probably still here… It just feels good to be here and to promote this movie and to be able to smile and to be here with my wife and my kids," Brown said while promoting the upcoming BET miniseries The Bobby Brown Story. Brown raised eyebrows when he denied abusing his late ex-wife. “There were no violent incidents between me and Whitney,” he said, denying that there were even 911 calls placed. Brown added: “The public record is wrong."
