A streaming service devoted to brainy British quiz shows is launching in the UK
IQTV will offer such brainy game show staples as Mastermind and The Weakest Link. “Intelligent quiz shows represent an attractive, untapped genre for a niche SVOD service," says Rod Henwood, who is overseeing the service. "They have significant and very loyal audiences, their brands are enduring, their hosts are highly recognizable with a strong social media following."

From Dev Patel to Daniel Kaluuya: For the second year in a row, a Skins alum is nominated for an acting Oscar
Looking back, the British cult teen series was a hotbed of talent. Skins premiered on Channel 4's digital channel E4 in January 2007 with an mission that set it apart from most teen series: it would have teenage writers writing for teenage actors, with the cast turning over every two seasons as the actors aged out of their roles. Get Out star and Best Actor nominee Daniel Kaluuya was 17 years old when he served as a writer and occasional actor on Skins, personally writing two episodes, hosting the show's podcast and playing the role of "Posh Kenneth." Dev Patel, who was nominated for best supporting actor at last year's Oscars for Lion, played horny teen Anwar. Other big names to emerge fromSkins include Game of Thrones stars Hannah Murray and Joe Dempsie, as well as movie stars Nicholas Hoult, Jack O'Connell and Kaya Scodelario.

Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker is too busy to do his annual comedic BBC TV review of the year 2017

For much of the past decade, Brooker has ended the year by presenting a “Wipe” of the previous 12 months. (Here’s the 2016 Wipe, here’s the 2010 Wipe.) But Brooker tweeted on Monday that there won't be a 2017 Wipe due to his heavy workload: “Got some good news and bad news. Bad news is no 2017 Wipe. Was set to do it but ran out of road. Am way behind on scripts / dev elsewhere and contrary to my optimistic delusions it turns out I can’t do 400 things at once.”

Doctor Who theme co-creator honored posthumously with a PhD
Electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire, who died in 2001 after being mostly unrecognized for her contribution to the classic theme song, will be given an honorary PhD from Coventry University. Derbyshire transformed Ron Gainer’s written score into an iconic piece of electronic music, but she wasn’t credited for her contribution.
