Katie Holmes' FBI drama, Cagney & Lacey and The Greatest American Hero are among the most surprising rejected pilots
"We just found out that network tv isn't ready for the first brown female superhero on tv," New Girl star Hannah Simone tweeted when she learned that her Indian-American reboot of the 1980s ABC superhero series failed to make next year's ABC schedule. CBS' rejection of the Cagney & Lacey reboot pilot means Grey's Anatomy star Sarah Drew has lost two jobs in as many weeks. Fox's passing on Katie Holmes' FBI drama marks the second time that she has been passed over for her first regular series role since Dawson's Creek. According to The Hollywood Reporter, there's a possibility of reshooting the pilot if Holmes approves. The most surprising rejected pilot is Bad Boys spinoff L.A's Finest starring Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony wanted to package L.A.'s Finest with Norman Lear's passion project Guess Who Died and bubble shows Timeless and The Blacklist. Now both pilots are being shopped, while a decision hasn't been made on The Blacklist and Timeless.

Cagney & Lacey star Sharon Gless offers CBS tips for its reboot
"Cagney & Lacey was never about cops," she tells The Hollywood Reporter. "It wasn't about packing a rod. There are a lot of cop shows, but Cagney & Lacey was about the feelings of those two women. I hope CBS allows (the new actresses) to find that."

Cagney & Lacey lands Ving Rhames
He'll co-star alongside Sarah Drew and Michelle Hurd on the CBS drama revival pilot, playing Police Capt. Stark, the LAPD Homicide Coordinator. Rhames is no stranger to starring on a reboot of a classic series. He took on the Telly Savalas role on CBS' 2005 revival of Kojak.

Sarah Drew goes from Grey's Anatomy to Cagney & Lacey, joining Blindspot alum Michelle Hurd
Drew has quickly landed a pilot a week after being dropped from Grey's Anatomy, joining the CBS reboot of the classic police procedural. According to Deadline, "Drew will play LAPD Detective Cagney, Lacey’s nimble and easygoing partner and protégée. Hurd’s Lacey is athletic, polished, a former high school track and field champion. Empathetic and straightforward, she’s the more experienced partner." Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless won six acting Emmys between them starring on the original Cagney & Lacey, which won two best drama series Emmys during its seven-season run. Hurd is no stranger to reboots of popular franchises. In fact, she's had recent guest appearances on both Lethal Weapon and Hawaii Five-0.

CBS’ rebooted Magnum P.I. is expected to star a minority actor
In addition to pursuing a non-white actor to take on the role of Thomas Magnum, the proposed reboot will replace at least one member of the original all-male team with a woman. Similarly, CBS’ reboot of Cagney and Lacey is planning to cast a non-white actress in the role of Lacey. The CW’s Charmed reboot will also have a diverse cast. “This is part of an across-the-board effort by the broadcast networks this year to have casts that represent the diverse makeup of America,” says Nellie Andreeva. “What’s more, while non-white actors had often been relegated to supporting roles in the past, judging by early buzz, some predict that we may have one of the most, if not the most diverse group of broadcast pilot leads ever.” As Andreeva notes, ABC announced last year that its Greatest American Hero is being reimagined with an Indian-American female lead.
