At NBC Upfronts, Seth Meyers jokes about reviving The Cosby Show, the Matt Lauer scandal and the Peacock's Chicago obsession
The Late Night host -- who was joined on stage by Andy Samberg -- also mocked the late Friday pickup of Brooklyn Nine-Nine: “I have to say, for NBC this upfronts week got off to a dramatic start when NBC picked up Brooklyn Nine-Nine after Fox canceled it," he said. "Yeah, fantastic news for a great show. But it still feels a little bit like NBC is Fox’s deadbeat friend. ‘Hey, uh, you gonna finish that? Can I have it?'”

Have we reached "Peak MD"? Broadcast TV could have as many as six medical dramas next season
NBC's Ryan Eggold-led drama New Amsterdam joins a crowded network medical drama field consisting of The Resident, Grey's Anatomy, The Good Doctor, Chicago Med and -- should it be renewed -- Code Black. "So why did the network feel the need to order up 10 cc’s of another medical drama STAT?" says Jennifer Maas of the New Amsterdam pickup. "Well, that’s a good question, as the Nielsen numbers for this genre are all over the place, meaning it could either become a hit, provide the network with steady mid-range ratings, or tread water each week."

NBC picks up Law & Order: SVU for Season 20, renews Dick Wolf's three Chicago series
Wolf's four NBC shows will all return next season -- Chicago Fire for Season 7, Chicago P.D. for Season 6 and Chicago Med for Season 4. Additionally, Wolf's Law & Order franchise will carry on with SVU reaching Season 20. SVU is still one of NBC highest-rated shows, averaging just under six million viewers. The oldest Chicago series, Chicago Fire, is currently the lowest-rated of the Chicago franchise, according to Variety. But it still performs solidly with just under six million viewers. The newest Chicago show, Chicago Med, is the highest-rated of the franchise, averaging 6.7 million viewers. In response to the SVU pickup, Ice-T tweeted: "FYI: SVU has OFFICIALLY been picked up for Season #20 Run and tell that!"
- SVU's renewal means it will match Gunsmoke's 20 seasons as the longest-running live-action series
- Chicago Fire stars Eamonn Walker, Monica Raymund and David Eigenberg aren't signed on for Season 7
- Chicago P.D. boss on season finale surprise: "It was one of the things that just evolved from the storytelling this season"
