Colton Underwood's bloated Bachelor premiere was stretched out to "an ungodly length"
Source: The Washington Post
"What’s three hours long, full of bad sex jokes and impossibly beautiful people in sparkly gowns?" asks The Washington Post. "No, it’s not the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards. It’s the premiere of The Bachelor, which stretched itself to an ungodly length Monday night. The pregame show lasted a full hour before we even arrived at the mansion, where Bachelor Colton Underwood, the first virgin Bachelor, would meet his 30 prospective suitors. Bachelor Nation alums Ashley Iaconetti and fiance Jared Haibon interviewed fans in Park City, Utah, who held signs proclaiming 'Utah Loves Virgins' and gushed about how much they love former Bachelor Ben Higgins. (He’s not a virgin, but he is quite wholesome.) A couple at their party got engaged ... In Dallas, former Bachelor contestant Alexis Waters and former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe joked about how dolphins are the only mammals (other than humans) that enjoy sex for pleasure (and of course made reference to Colton). Runners-up from Becca’s season, Blake Horstmann and Jason Tartick, chatted with superfans in Lansing, Michigan, where, yes another couple got engaged. Is The Bachelor trying to up their ratio of successful engagements by roping in civilians to propose? It sure seems that way. Whatever ABC was going for with the breathless watch parties, it was far too much."

The Bachelor creator on picking Colton Underwood: "He looks the part, he’s an all-American kid ...The virginity thing is interesting"
Source: Entertainment Weekly
Mike Fleiss says the potential of Colton losing his virginity "creates added stakes for this season. When we sat with all the guys that we were considering, Colton just seemed like a star. When you’re in the room with him, you’re like, that’s a big personality, a big presence. He just won us over. And he has grown from the time he was on Bachelorette. I think the Bachelor in Paradise experience did add to his maturity." As for Blake Horstmann and Jason Tartick not getting the job after lobbying for it, Fleiss says: "Yeah, which isn’t necessarily a good thing, you know?" What if everybody on Colton Underwood's Bachelor season is a virgin?
Source: The Muse
Maria Sherman came up with the theory after watching the latest Bachelor trailer. "All of the contestants are quoted as saying strange, borderline sexless things about Underwood, immediately reminding me of fan fiction written by tweens where things are about to get hot and heavy with, like, Harry Potter but it cuts directly to the 'morning after' because when you’re 12 you’re unsure how to get down?" she writes. "Normally, this realization would be enough to keep anyone (me) entertained, but now I’m thinking... what if everyone on this season is a virgin? Like, every single contestant, and it’s a full on virgin fest?"
