Game of Thrones creators’ Star Wars gig likely renders Confederate as “unlikely to see the light of day any time soon if ever”
Although there’s no official word that the controversial slavery drama from David Benioff and D.B. Weiss has been shelved, Nellie Andreeva notes that their Star Wars gig “immediately raised serious doubts about the fate of Confederate, which was supposed to be their follow-up project to GOT, with production set to ‘begin following the final season of Game Of Thrones.’” Star Wars will likely tie up Benioff and Weiss for years, making them unavailable to work on Confederate.

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will write and produce a new Star Wars film series
Their Star Wars series will be separate from the upcoming Rian Johnson Star Wars trilogy and the episodic Skywalker saga. The duo said in a statement they are “so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.” No word yet on if their Star Wars work will impact their controversial Confederate slavery drama project that they’ve been working on for HBO. According to Variety, “HBO declined to comment on the future of that series.”

HBO boss: Game of Thrones won’t return until 2019 because “these things take time,” and showrunners are “perfectionists”
“Here’s what I’ll tell you: They take the time they need to do the show at its highest level of quality,” HBO programming chief Casey Bloys tells EW. “As the show has gone on, it’s gotten bigger — big battle scenes, big special effects. These things take time. Here’s the one thing I can assure you: Dan and Dave were not sitting around on a beach waiting to go back to work. They’re perfectionists and this is the soonest it can come back at a level of quality that they are comfortable with.”

What does it mean that HBO’s Confederate creators “are not actively working on it”?
The alternate history slavery drama series from Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss has been met with backlash since it was first announced. The Washington Post reported this week that “though the show is still in development, the creators are not actively working on it, a person familiar with the process said.” Does this mean that Benioff and Weiss are too busy working on Game of Thrones to develop the series? Has it been put on the back burner?
