Is the red carpet show dying?
Source: The Atlantic
E! Live From the Red Carpet seemed to be unsure how to cover this year's Emmys red carpet. It tried to engage fans by having celebrities draw fan questions from a jar, but that didn't work. As Megan Garber notes, "it is perhaps an apt metaphor for this moment—in awards shows, in entertainment, in American culture—that red carpets don’t seem to be sure what they are anymore, or what they should be. A platform for serious conversation? An opportunity to talk about social issues? A place of communion between celebrities and audiences? A lighthearted presentation of clothes? It might be all of the above—or it might be none."

Ashlee+Evan can't match the entertainment value of other reality TV couples
Source: The Muse
Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross' new E! reality show is moderately entertaining, says Allie Volpe, "but fail to capture the charm of other reality couples like Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler in Very Cavallari or even that of Ashlee’s older sister Jessica Simpson on Newlyweds. Ashlee and Evan’s banter is almost too PG. For a couple with already successful careers and famous families, the stakes on Ashlee+Evan are relatively low. So what if Evan turns down another acting job? He’s got a few already in the queue. Even if Ashlee can’t top 'Pieces of Me'-level fame, she’s still got love and Momma D on her side."

Ashlee Simpson is again using reality TV to reclaim the narrative of her 2004 SNL lip-sync disaster
Simpson first tried to reclaim the narrative from her backing track snafu from the Jude Law-hosted October 23, 2004 Saturday Night Live episode on MTV's The Ashlee Simpson Show. Now she's using the incident to help promote her new E! reality show, Ashlee+Evan. “All of sudden, you know, sh*t happened and it was like boom. And the world hated me for this SNL moment I had,” she said in a clip from her upcoming show.
