Vanessa Marquez's friends respond to her shooting death, say she was suffering from chronic illness
Friends of the former ER actress, who played nurse Wendy Goldman on the first three seasons of the hit NBC drama, told The Daily Beast that she was “heartbroken” by her stalled career, and her suspicions of foul play. Marquez, who made headlines last year after she accused George Clooney and others on ER of blacklisting her from Hollywood, was shot dead Thursday by police after pulling a BB gun that looked like a handgun on officers on Thursday. The Daily Beast reports Marquez primarily interacted with her friends through the internet. She met two of her friends the #TCMParty for fans of Turner Classic Movies. “She was lovely, kind, sweet, encouraging,” says Paula Guthat, co-creator of TCM Party, who formed a relationship with Marquez via the phone even though they never met in person. “She definitely had her health challenges which were very severe. But she had a really sweet, enthusiastic personality.”

Police were called to do a welfare check at Marquez's South Pasadena home on Thursday afternoon. Marquez, 49, who was best known for playing nurse Wendy Goldman on ER from 1994 to 1997, was suffering from a seizure when police arrived. Officers spoke to Marquez, who appeared to be suffering from mental issues, with the help of paramedics for 90 minutes, at which point she became combative and pointed a BB gun made to look like a semi-automatic handgun. Police shot Marquez and she was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Marquez made headlines last October when, in the wake of Harvey Weinstein scandal, she alleged she was sexually and racially harassed on the ER set. “Clooney helped blacklist me when I spoke up abt harassment on ER.’women who dont play the game lose career’I did,” she tweeted. Clooney later responded that he never blacklisted her.

Producer John Wells: A West Wing reboot would "tarnish" its legacy because the U.S. is too polarized
The mega-producer behind The West Wing and ER isn't interested in reviving his two biggest hits. "The West Wing is the one people pester us about constantly," Wells tells Variety. "I have continued to say no, we’re not going to do it. I don’t want to do it even though it’s the one that I think there are actually ways to do it. But not given the political climate now." Pointing out that Republicans and Democrats were fans of the original NBC political drama, Wells says: "The country is so polarized right now I think announcing that we were going to try to do any version would greatly tarnish what it was. Because I think it would be assumed to be a liberal screed rather than an opportunity to do what it was originally designed to be. We had our moments of standing on a soapbox, but for the most part it was about the sacrifices people made to be in government, and how difficult it was to get things done, how compromise was required. It was about service and the ideal of who we’re supposed to be as a country. This is a fraught time to try to enter into that conversation. I think it would be a very bad idea to try to go back in now.” Wells also emphasizes he's not interested in an ER revival, noting that Shonda Rhimes and others have picked up the "medical show banner." But there is one of his hit shows that he would revive: Southland. “That one finished too soon,” he says. “I would love to do that (show) again. We’ve tried a couple of times. It’s going to be hard because everyone’s a star now.”

Anthony Edwards alleges he was molested as a child by director and producer Gary Goddard
“I met Goddard when I was 12, and he quickly became a dominant force in my life,” the former ER star writes in a Medium post. “He taught me about the value of acting, respect for friendship, and the importance of studying. Pedophiles prey on the weak. My father, who suffered from undiagnosed PTSD from WWII, was not emotionally available. Everyone has the need to bond, and I was no exception. My vulnerability was exploited. I was molested by Goddard, my best friend was raped by him — and this went on for years. The group of us, the gang, stayed quiet."

George Clooney denies blacklisting ER actress who alleges on-set sexual harassment and racism
Vanessa Marquez, who played a nurse on the hit NBC medical drama’s first three seasons, released a series of tweets alleging that she filed a sexual harassment complaint and was subjected to “Mexican slurs” on set. She says that executive producer John Wells never did anything about her official complaint, and that Clooney was complicit in having her blacklisted in Hollywood. While Wells and Warner Bros. has yet to respond, Clooney released a statement saying, in part: “I had no idea Vanessa was blacklisted. I take her at her word. I was not a writer or a producer or a director on that show. I had nothing to do with casting. I was an actor and only an actor.”

Don Ohlmeyer, the NBC exec who resurrected the Peacock’s primetime lineup in the early ‘90s, dies at 72
Source: The New York Times
When Ohlmeyer arrived as NBC West Coast president in 1993, he says “there was the smell of death” — despite Law & Order and Seinfeld being on the air, they were not hits. Ohlmeyer oversaw NBC’s primetime revival with the emergence of Seinfeld, plus the launch of Frasier, Friends and ER. But despite all that, and his producing work on Monday Night Football, Ohlmeyer is probably best be remembered as O.J. Simpson’s friend who got Norm Macdonald fired from SNL's Weekend Update 20 years ago.
