“If you haven’t heard my story, my mom is full Korean and my dad is Caucasian,” she says. “Kids in kindergarten would make fun of me for being Asian and when you’re that age you don’t know really how to process that; the way you take that is, ‘Who I am isn’t good enough.’”

While promoting the revival of the TLC favorite at the TV press tour, Davis was asked about her least-favorite home-design trend. “Like shiplap?” she responded, eliciting laughter. HGTV Fixer Upper star Gaines happens to be the unofficial spokesperson for shiplap, a specific type of wood siding.

Fixer Upper’s Chip Gaines to cut off his controversial long hair for charity

Chip and Joanna Gaines deny they’re leaving HGTV in a bid to land a more lucrative contract
Page Six reported that the Fixer Upper stars were unhappy with their “horrible contracts,” and they were departing their show in hopes of getting a more lucrative contract when Discovery Communications buys Scripps, which owns HGTV. A spokesperson for the couple refutes the report, saying their departure is “based on wanting to catch their breath for a minute…It is not based on anything else people might read.”

Just like Rachael Ray eventually outgrew the Food Network, the Gaineses are clearly ready for a platform that’s more visible than HGTV. In fact, the Rachael Ray business model of TV talk shows, magazines, endorsements and product lines might make a lot of sense.” As for HGTV, its dependence on talent-driven content will be tested with the departure of the Fixer Upper stars.
