Greg Berlanti inks a Warner Bros. TV mega-deal that could be worth $400 million
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Berlanti, who now produces a record-breaking 14 TV shows, will stay with Warner Bros. TV through 2024 under his new pact. The deal is only for his TV work. Berlanti, who recently directed Love, Simon, has a separate film deal with Fox. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the deal is "worth $400 million in all-cash guarantees," adding that Warner Bros. executives "aggressively pursued Berlanti for a new deal. Berlanti, who values loyalty, is said to have been happy at the studio and did not take meetings with any other outlet despite interest from Netflix, among other outlets." (Other sources say the deal is worth "more than $300 million.")

CBS says "we're feeling good about our diversity" next season
CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl noted that new series God Friended Me, The Neighborhood, FBI, Happy Together and Magnum P.I. all have people of color in leading roles. “We sat in front of a lot of you at (Television Critics Association press tour) and said that we were going to do it,” Kahl said. “I think quite frankly there were a lot of eye rolls, and I think if you look at the schedule, we did what we said we were going to do.”

Greg Berlanti reacts to his 14-show record -- and whether he'd ever reboot Everwood
The uber-producer saw only one of his shows canceled (ABC's Deception) this season, while four were picked up over the past few days (CBS' God Friended Me and The Red Line, CW's All American and DC Universe's Doom Patrol). This allowed him to break a new record for on-air TV series that was previously set by Aaron Spelling and Jerry Bruckheimer. "My secret dream," says Berlanti, "is that other people that work with me get more credit for all the hard work that they do because they work just as hard and so I’m really proud to be a part of all of it, but I don’t feel like an author for that. I feel like I’m just on a really great team. That’s the truth." Once upon a time, Berlanti had only one show on the air, The WB's Everwood, which featured future stars Chris Pratt, Emily VanCamp and Sarah Drew. "Definitely of all of them, Everwood is the one that has a special song in my heart," he says. "I think it’s about schedules and finances and budget and if we can get a budget to a place, I think that there’s a real shot that that could come back. I think we just have to figure out what would be the best way to do it, but there’s no nothing firm in place yet."

Coming to CBS: God Friended Me?

The “uplifting” Greg Berlanti-produced drama pilot follows a “lippy atheist” whose “life is turned upside down when he is ‘friended’ by God on Facebook. Unwittingly, he becomes an agent of change in the lives and destinies of others around him.”
