Downton Abbey movie greenlighted, with the series cast returning
A feature film based on the 2010-15 British TV historical period drama had long been rumored. Now it's official, with creator Julian Fellowes returning to write the two-hour film. Production is set to begin later this summer with the series cast “When the television series drew to a close it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie and now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production,” executive producer Gareth Neame said in a statement. “Julian’s script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival’s hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen.”

Piers Morgan: We paid Meghan Markle's dad for his first TV interview
Thomas Markle appeared live via satellite on the Morgan co-hosted Good Morning Britain this morning. But Morgan insists the payment for the interview was no big deal. "Well, it was a small amount of money, a few thousand pounds," says the former CNN host. "He was offered stratospherically lots more money by different media organizations. He could've made a lot more money doing what he wanted to do."

Writer Gwyneth Hughes thinks author Henry Fielding’s 1749 novel is relevant to the #MeToo era, despite it focusing on a young man's sexual exploits. “These days we are all hyper alert to issues of consent and sex equality," she says. "But Henry Fielding was there before us. Almost three hundred years ago, he was writing men and women with equal human abilities in love and sexual desire, and his moral compass was clear, compassionate and humorous. Tom never has sex with a woman who doesn’t want him."

Of the two, Mike Hale finds Victoria to be more “immediately gratifying.” He adds: “So call me shallow, or just contrary, for preferring the breezy, full-blooded pleasures of Victoria to the more finely wrought, stiffer virtues of The Crown. Who would have thought that the person for whom the Victorian Era was named would be this much fun?”
