George R.R. Martin: I'm still calling the Game of Thrones prequel pilot "The Long Night," even though it's not the official title
Source: The New York Times
While discussing his new Syfy show Nightflyers with The New York Times, Martin was asked about the Game of Thrones pilot he's making with Jane Goldman. "That’s the show I’m calling 'The Long Night,'" he responded. "HBO said, 'Don’t call it "The Long Night,"' so that’s not the official title. But I still think of it as 'The Long Night.' That’s the one Jane Goldman wrote, and they’re gearing up for preproduction. Naomi Watts has been cast, so that’s very exciting."

George R.R. Martin says "mea culpa": HBO "informed" him the Game of Thrones prequel pilot is still untitled
Martin sparked speculation that the prequel pilot will be called The Long Night, his preferred choice, by referring to the pilot with that title. But Martin wrote on his blog Monday: "Oh, I should also mention… HBO has informed me that the Jane Goldman pilot is not (yet) titled THE LONG NIGHT. That’s is certainly the title I prefer, but for the moment the pilot is still officially UNTITLED. So… mea culpa, mea culpa, mea culpa. Elsewise, the pilot is coming along well, with casting falling into place. I could tell you more, but I am not supposed to."

Naomi Watts to star in Game of Thrones prequel pilot
Source: Entertainment Weekly
After lengthy negotiations, the two-time Oscar nominee has agreed to play "a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret" in the untitled Game of Thrones prequel pilot from Jane Goldman and George R.R. Martin. Her character's name hasn't been revealed. Filming on the pilot is expected to begin in early 2019. Watts, who starred on Netflix's short-lived Gypsy last year, is currently also starring as Gretchen Carlson on Showtime's Roger Ailes Fox News limited series. While Watts will lead the series based on the Age of Heroes set thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, it's unclear how long she'll star on the potential series. As EW points out, "since this is Westeros, you never know how long even a lead actor might stay on a show — Sean Bean famously led the cast of the original series until he checked out in the ninth episode."

George R.R. Martin says one of five Game of Thrones prequel ideas has been shelved, expects HBO to work "Game of Thrones" into prequel titles
Source: George RR Martin
Martin wrote on his blog that of the five prequels that HBO considered, "one of those has been shelved, I am given to understand, and of course Jane’s pilot is now moving to film," referring to the Jane Goldman prequel that HBO picked up to pilot on Friday. Martin also wrote on his blog that he preferred to call the first prequel from Goldman The Long Night. But that title will probably be rejected, he explains, because, “HBO will want to work the phrase ‘Game of Thrones’ in there somewhere.” Martin says he's met with all the writers for the proposed prequel, and he was really impressed with Goldman. "Really, the accolades here should go to Jane. She has been an absolute thrill to work with… and my god, what a talent," he wrote. ALSO: Explaining "Age of Heroes."
