Writing organization bans 13 Reasons Why author for alleged sexual harassment
Jay Asher, whose 2007 book was turned into the Netflix teen series that deals with sexual assault and harassment, was removed from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators after he was accused of violating the group's sexual harassment guidelines, according to the group's executive director. But Asher says he wasn't expelled, he left on his own accord. “It's very scary when you know people are just not going to believe you once you open your mouth,” Asher tells BuzzFeed News. “I feel very conflicted about it just because of what's going on in the culture and who's supposed to be believed and who's not.”
