The Situation will be allowed to film MTV's Jersey Shore Family Vacation after pleading guilty to tax fraud
Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and his brother each entered a guilty plea in federal court this morning for failing to pay taxes on nearly $9 million on income. The MTV star faces up to five years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine, according to TMZ. But the judge will allow him to reunite with his MTV pals in Florida to film Jersey Shore Family Vacation before his formal sentencing on April 25. The Situation initially faced up to 15 years in prison. The Situation's attorneys said in a statement to the court that he has turned his life around into "something positive" and has been sober for two years: "We hope that the Court will consider the totality of the circumstances, including Michael’s minor role in the offense, and impose a fair sentence. In the meantime, he will continue to entertain millions on Jersey Shore and thanks everyone who has expressed support.”

MTV Floribama Shore presents a fresher, generational shift in its approach to exhibitionism
“The vacant vanity of the Jersey Shore crew has evolved here into a more complex egocentrism, tinged with a startling earnestness,” says Troy Patterson. “Acute self-involvement mingles with genuine sensitivity … The straightforward introduction of such adult themes undercuts ready assumptions of what a trashy MTV show is about. Floribama Shore pulls the rug out from under the viewer, and then lays the rug down again for the housemates to wallow upon, in a fashion familiar to the genre.”

From the perspective of 2017, it’s hilarious that Jersey Shore was even considered controversial
“Since the Jersey Shore reunion is what passes for good news these days,” says Amy Zimmerman, “it’s easy to forget that the series was not universally beloved when it premiered. In fact, the Jersey Shore was controversial—which is hilarious in comparison to the increasingly dark controversies that have come to define the entertainment world in 2017.” ALSO: The “Snooki Blueprint” seems outdated for reality shows seeking Generation Z.

MTV Floribama Shore looks like a cheaply made placeholder stand-in for the return of Jersey Shore
The Jersey Shore spinoff looks like it was made with no budget and filmed with an iPhone 4, says Andy Dehnart. “It’s nothing compared to MTV’s usual visual quality, like in this summer’s cinematic Siesta Key or Catfish‘s what-fourth-wall aesthetic,” he says. “Here, the lighting, artificial and natural, washes out the cast, and everything is either too bright or too dark. Cameras jostle around and zoom in and out like the camera operator handed it to their kid to play with. Dialogue is inaudible and subtitled.”

Jersey Shore is coming back, but it now feels like a relic of a simpler time
Weighing in on MTV’s Jersey Shore Family Vacation announcement, Sean O’Neal says Jersey Shore “now feels like a relic of a simpler time, when we all still had the brain capacity to laugh at the drunken bickering of idiots. Way back in those carefree days of assuming that these sorts of self-involved, proudly avaricious reality stars represented only a fringe element of society that would certainly never attain broader political influence, the show was a real guilty pleasure phenomenon, spawning a mini-cottage industry of other shows about yelling Italians, and giving rise to myriad spinoffs centered on individual cast members—not to mention inspiring dozens of regional remakes all around the world, including the just-premiered Floribama Shore. Its cultural legacy is both lasting and surprisingly renewable, a fact that is probably best not to dwell on for too long.”

Sammi “Sweeetheart” Giancola was the only Jersey Shore alum to turn down Jersey Shore Family Vacation
A source tells Us Weekly: “Everyone was invited to come on the show but Sammi was the only one who didn’t want to. A big reason for that was because she didn’t want to be around Ronnie.”
