Three of Jodie Whittaker’s first season episodes are expected to be of an educational nature, with explorations of historical events, including the Rosa Parks-era Alabama. Huw Fullerton wonders if this approach could backfire: "The BBC declined to comment when contacted for this article, but assuming the stories are true this would mark an interesting sea-change for the series. The question is, would it actually be a good thing? Or would it just be an opportunity for a great TV show to become a lecturing, overly-expositional classroom video, the sci-fi equivalent of Come Outside with Auntie Mabel?"

BBC told some staff the next Doctor Who would be a man to keep the Jodie Whittaker casting a secret
“We found out it would be Jodie the same time as everybody else, watching the Wimbledon final," says visual effects producer Louise Hastings, adding: “The BBC actually had us quote her first scene before we knew it was gonna be Jodie, via storyboards. Moffat, whose tenure as Doctor Who boss ends this month, was asked in an interview with Radio Times why a female Doctor wasn’t tapped under his tenure, while his successor Chris Chibnall immediately picked Jodie Whittaker. Moffat said he didn’t want to alienate Brexit voters. “This isn’t a show exclusively for progressive liberals; this is also for people who voted Brexit,” he said. “That’s not me politically at all – but we have to keep everyone on board.”
