Roseanne's jab at Black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat was "a dog whistle so strong that it might have brought Lassie back from the dead"
According to Emily Nussbaum, that one controversial joke about "all the shows about black and Asian families" explains Roseanne. Nussbaum says the joke was a racial dog whistle. If it wasn't, why not target shows about white families like The Middle or Speechless? Is it because those shows are "just like them"? "The jab," says Nussbaum, "was clearly aimed at Black-ish and Fresh Off the Boat, comedies that share ABC’s Tuesday schedule with Roseanne. The line establishes a few things. One is that the Conners don’t live in the same America as the Johnsons, from Black-ish, or the Huangs, from Fresh Off the Boat. There will never be a crossover episode—no fun clash, say, between an aging Jessica Huang and Roseanne, on a Conner trip to Florida. Instead, the Conners are themselves bored, alienated ABC viewers, unable even to remember titles, just that these are the 'black and Asian' shows."

Sara Gilbert had a Roseanne backup plan in case Johnny Galecki couldn't return for the revival
Gilbert says she actually doesn't mind that Galecki has been mostly unavailable to work on the Roseanne revival due to his Big Bang Theory commitment. "I think if Johnny didn’t have an empire to run, he would’ve certainly been in more episodes," she tells TV Line, on the occasion of Galecki's return tonight. "But I still like the idea of an inconsistent parent. It’s such a great area to explore, regardless of his availability." Still, if Galecki wasn't available at all, Gilbert said she had a backup plan. "The backup plan was going to be (Darlene) dealing with the heartbreak of him being an absent father," she says. "Darlene would have plans for him to show up, he would say he was going to show up, and then he wouldn’t show up. I was still going to deal with the relationship, but it would not have been the same without him." ALSO: Gilbert texted Galecki to get his advice on naming their TV son, which became a tribute to Glenn Quinn.

Johnny Galecki suggests The Big Bang Theory will likely end after Season 12, admits Roseanne revival negotiations were “delicate”
“The only manner in which the cast has discussed wrapping (The Big Bang Theory) has been that we’re all going to be very sad when that day comes,” Galecki said at the TV press tour “But I think at this point everyone’s very comfortable with 12 seasons being a good time to go home and see our families.” Aditionally, Galecki told TV Line that the negotiations to allow him to have a brief cameo on ABC Roseanne revival had to be “delicate” because it is a sitcom on a rival network. “It was probably most uncomfortable only to me,” he told TV Line, “because obviously Big Bang is my home and my family. But I probably wouldn’t have been on Big Bang if it hadn’t been for Roseanne. So there were the politics to be considerate about, but everyone was very supportive.”
