Why not reboot Kevin Can Wait?
In response to Jezebel's proposal to reboot CBS' canceled Kevin James sitcom, Patrick Redford of sister blog Deadspin -- who has facetiously written about Kevin Can Wait "fan theories" not once but twice -- offers a reboot proposal: "Sell HBO the intellectual property rights to Kevin Can Wait and have them make a Kevin Can Wait World in the Westworld universe."

CBS admits Kevin Can Wait fans weren't happy with the decision to kill off Erinn Hayes' wife character
“Creatively, the show made a choice at the beginning of last year,” said CBS Entertainment senior executive vice president Thom Sherman. “We agreed to go along with it and unfortunately the audience didn’t respond to it.” CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl cited "the numbers" in deciding to cancel the Kevin James series. “It was a strong show for us, it’s had a lot of decline this year, it was heading in the wrong direction," said Kahl. "The numbers were going down as the year went on and looking forward, it didn’t look like a show that was going to be strong enough to anchor a night for us going forward.”

CBS cancels Kevin Can Wait after ratings decline following TV wife's death
Canceled after two seasons, Kevin Can Wait "is one of the biggest casualties at CBS this season," says Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, pointing to its "blazing" Season 1 start. Ratings, though, declined over the course of Season 1, prompting Kevin Can Wait to kill off Kevin James' wife character Donna, played by Erinn Hayes. But that controversial decision, which included bringing in James' King of Queens co-star Leah Remini, backfired. "The move had been acknowledged as a mistake," says Andreeva. "Viewers did not take it well, and ratings for Kevin Can Wait posted steep declines in Season 2, sending the series from the top of the heap to the bubble list." Kevin Can Wait also parted ways with co-creator and showrunner Bruce Helford during its first season, and he now is in charge of the hit Roseanne revival. Last week, Verne Gay explained Kevin Can Wait's struggles in the wake of Donna's death: "A weird black hole has existed at the center of Kevin this season because it's finally occurred to fans, viewers, really anyone, that Kevin hasn't a clue what happened to Donna and couldn't care less, either. Successful sitcoms float on a cloud of fake goodwill and bonhomie, even the most seditious of them (Seinfeld). By bumping off Donna, Kevin couldn't even fake that." ALSO: CBS has also canceled Mark Feuerstein's 9JKL.

Kevin Can Wait hasn't recovered after the unexplained death of Erinn Hayes' character
Not explaining why Kevin James' TV wife died has hurt the CBS sitcom, which is now on the bubble for next season. "A weird black hole has existed at the center of Kevin this season because it's finally occurred to fans, viewers, really anyone, that Kevin hasn't a clue what happened to Donna and couldn't care less, either," says Verne Gay. "Successful sitcoms float on a cloud of fake goodwill and bonhomie, even the most seditious of them (Seinfeld). By bumping off Donna, Kevin couldn't even fake that." ALSO: Patton Oswalt would reunite with former King of Queens co-star Kevin James on Kevin Can Wait "in a second."

House of Cards creator Beau Willimon accused of knowing about on-set sex harassment claims against Kevin Spacey
"Bullsh*t. Utter bullsh*t. 100%," a “higher-level source” tells Buzzfeed in reaction to Willimon stating last week that “I neither witnessed nor was aware of any inappropriate behavior on set or off.” Buzzfeed’s Kate Aurthur also spoke to two other unnamed people who contradict Willimon’s statement. "I saw that Beau said he had no idea, which I know is completely false," said the “higher-level” crew member, adding: "They had production meetings about Spacey's flirtatious behavior toward crew and cast, and it never made it any further than that. It was like a joke." Buzzfeed reports that Spacey’s sexually inappropriate behavior was widespread and constant. "He touches and feels anyone he wants to," said a source. Another person alleges that a production assistant was fired for refusing Spacey’s advances. Aurthur tried to get Willimon to respond to the these new allegations: “After prolonged negotiations with his representative, Willimon declined to comment on the record for this story.” ALSO: Thousands sign a petition to have Kevin James replace Kevin Spacey on House of Cards.

Kevin Can Wait’s dead wife is now being mined for laughs
“This week on Kevin Can Wait, the death of Donna took a weird turn,” says Matt Miller. “A really weird turn. Like f*cked up, even." The Kevin James comedy hasn’t explained how Erinn Hayes’ character died, not after five episodes. But last night’s episode did revolve around a Parents Without Spouses support group. “Maybe Donna died of the shame of being associated with a group of unscrupulous a**holes," says Miller. Meanwhile, ex-CBS sitcom star Jon Cryer weighs in: “Kevin Can Wait has managed to turn the perfunctory death of a major character into a comment on the essential meaninglessness of human life,” tweeted the former Two and a Half Men star.

Kevin James on killing off his Kevin Can Wait wife: “We were literally running out of ideas”
James tells the NY Daily News that he was originally supposed to play a single dad, and that Erinn Hayes' character was a last-minute addition. "I get that people are like 'Whoa, why would you do this?' But it really felt like a thing like this was needed for this show to drive forward,” he said, adding: “The plot of the show didn't have enough drive," James said. "If we got through a second season, I wouldn't see us getting through a third one. We were literally just running out of ideas." James says he doesn’t see the show revisiting his TV wife’s death.

Leah Remini: Scientology tried to get me to convert Kevin James
Remini says of her King of Queens co-star, “They always tried to get me to, (asking) ‘Why is he not in? Why have you not promoted it to him?’ I was like, ‘Because he’s Catholic. He doesn’t want anything to do with it. They let it go after a while, but usually you’d be expected to recruit, especially with somebody you work with for nine years.”

Kevin Can Wait killed off its wife character “out of respect” for Erinn Hayes
The goal was to give Kevin’s character a real drive and a real predicament (involving) how a family comes back together (after tragedy),” says executive producer Rob Long. “Also, out of respect for the character of Donna — and certainly the way that Erinn Hayes portrayed her — it seemed like the only right and fair way to treat her character.”
