Legion's Noah Hawley on the Season 2 finale: "It was stuff that we already filmed, basically"
Hawley says the additional 11th episode was assembled from previous material from the cutting-room floor. "It was stuff that we already filmed, basically, and a couple of extra pieces that we picked up to connect some things," he says. "The thing that I learned with Legion is, because it’s a surreal show, it’s not necessarily information-based a lot of the time. But the experience of watching it doesn’t want to be a long experience. You don’t want to watch a 60-minute episode of Legion, I think it’s just too much. To a certain point, your attention is just going to wander naturally — even mine when I watch episodes for too long."

Noah Hawley on Legion Season 2: "What happens if we take this roller coaster off the rails?"
"There's now, what, 500 shows on the air?" says the Legion creator. "And so many of them have gotten so good at doing all the things that traditional great storytelling does, right? I guess my feeling was, 'Well, if it's not just about creating an emotional arc that rides along a predictable rail, what happens if we take this roller coaster off the rails?'"

Legion's psychic interpretive dance battles are one of its best ideas
"Legion takes the inherent uniqueness and interiority that’s a part of any interpretive dancer’s creation process and uses it as the perfect metaphor for what it’s like for telepaths to fight one another, something that’s at least in part inspired by Marvel’s comics," says Charles Pulliam-Moore.

Legion Season 2 makes Season 1 look restrained
"There’s more of everything, from new characters and alliances to impeccably detailed costumes and surroundings," Danette Chavez says of Season 2 of the FX Marvel series. "Jeff Russo’s eclectic score continues to set the mood (and heighten anxiety) with blood-pumping arrangements and the jagged trilling of violins. The inventive storytelling and core ensemble are (mostly) still in place, but (Noah) Hawley and (co-producer) Nathaniel Halpern have built a whole new reality that is by turns impenetrable and tenuous—as we previously learned, it all depends on the angle. But aside from the backstories and reliability of how unreliable our senses are, season two is kind of a reset, something frequent collaborators Hawley and Halpern are quite familiar with."
