Morgan Freeman's lawyer demands CNN retract sexual harssment story
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
A 10-page letter sent from Freeman's attorney to CNN president Jeff Zucker called last Thursday's article accusing Freeman of multiple instances of sexual harassment a "product of malicious intent, falsehoods, slight-of-hand, an absence of editorial control, and journalistic malpractice." Attorney Robert M. Schwartz pointed to two of the women named in the story who have denied allegations against Freeman. Schwartz also said CNN entertainment reporter and Freeman accuser Chloe Melas "baited and prodded supposed 'witnesses' to say bad things about Mr. Freeman and tried to get them to confirm her bias against him." He adds: "At a minimum, CNN immediately needs to issue a retraction and apologize to Mr. Freeman through the same channels, and with the same level of attention, that it used to unjustly attack him on May 24." CNN fired back at Freeman's attorney, saying: "The unfounded accusations made by Mr. Freeman’s lawyer are disappointing and are difficult to reconcile with Mr. Freeman’s own public statements in the aftermath of the story. Morgan Freeman apologizes after multiple women accuse him of sexual harassment
Eight women accused Freeman of sexual harassment in a CNN report published this morning. His alleged bad behavior happened on movie sets and included one of the CNN reporters, Chloe Melas, who co-authored the story. Melas accused Freeman of inappropriate behavior on a movie junket. In response, Freeman issued a statement of apology. "Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected — that was never my intent.” Freeman's TV credits include National Geographic's The Story of Us and The Story of God, in which he serves as executive producer and narrator. He also executive produces CBS' Madam Secretary and appears on the series occasionally as a Supreme Court justice. Neither network has yet to respond to the allegations against Freeman.
