In defense of Fergie's National Anthem: What if her performance was actually good?
"When offered anything that dares to be different, social media actively worked to uphold orthodoxy," Jesse David Fox says in defending Fergie. "Experimentation in general is a good thing, and it can be an exceptional thing when it happens in such a public forum. Fergie’s performance was not a failure of conception or execution, but expectation. Because even if her rendition wasn’t perfect, the reaction to it definitely will dissuade the next artist with a strange idea to try it on national television."

LeBron James thanks "whatever her name is" for bringing more awareness to his message
“I will not just shut up and dribble because I mean too much to my two boys here, their best friend right here, my daughter that’s at home and my wife and my family,” the NBA superstar said of Fox News' Laura Ingraham at an NBA All-Star Game press conference. “And all these other kids who look up to me for inspiration and try to find a way out. The best thing she did was create more awareness. I appreciate her for even giving me even more awareness. For me to sit up here, at the greatest weekend, NBA All-Star weekend, and I get to sit up here and talk about social justice, equality, and why a woman on a certain network decided to tell me to 'shut up and dribble. So, thank you, whatever her name is, don’t even know her name.” ALSO: Ingraham invites James on her show.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham taking heat for telling LeBron James to "shut up and dribble"
The NBA star said President Trump doesn't "give a f*ck about the people," prompting the conservative Fox News host to slam him and Kevin Durant for their anti-Trump comments. “Must they run their mouths like that? Unfortunately a lot of kids and some adults take these ignorant comments seriously,” she said, adding that "it’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who get paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball.” Her comments were met with a fierce response on Twitter, accusing her of barely disguised racism. "They use to try and hide it.. now the president has given everyone the courage to live their truths," tweeted James' former teammate Dwyane Wade. "Someone tell this bitch to meet me outside... Im so not in the mood for playing nice or polite this week," added Grey's Anatomy's Ellen Pompeo.

Bob Costas on Dick Enberg: “He was a sentimental man but there was nothing inauthentic about that enthusiasm”
“With all due respect to other great announcers in the ‘70s and ‘80s if you were to have a decathlon of play-by-play, he would have won that decathlon of play-by-play because he did so many things exquisitely well,” said Costas of his former NBC Sports colleague, who died Thursday at age 82. “He did seven or eight things really, really well, and was at or near the top of all those things. And he did with the combination of extraordinary craftsmanship, meticulous preparation, facility with words and a genuine—not a manufactured, but a genuine—boyish enthusiasm. He was a sentimental man but there was nothing inauthentic about that enthusiasm.”
