John Legend: Don't call me "courageous" for being the highest-profile celebrity to appear in Surviving R. Kelly
Many artists -- including Jay-Z, Questlove and Lady Gaga -- declined to appear in Lifetime's six-part docuseries on the disgraced R&B singer, leaving Legend as the only high-profile name to submit to an interview. "To everyone telling me how courageous I am for appearing in the doc, it didn't feel risky at all. I believe these women and don't give a fuck about protecting a serial child rapist. Easy decision," Legend tweeted last night. Meanwhile, Questlove defended his decision not to appear in a tweet he later deleted, saying "I didn't wanna be in the 'good times' portion of the doc, like stanning for his 'genius.'" Surviving R. Kelly producer Dream Hampton responded that Questlove wasn't asked to talk about his "Genius." "I asked you to come on camera and say the same thing you said on Twitter. I told you I need Black male allies." ALSO: R. Kelly's music gets a Spotify boost from Surviving R. Kelly.

Jimmy Fallon’s mother dies
Source: New York Daily News
Fallon’s mother, Gloria Fallon, died in a New York City hospital on Saturday at age 68, one day after Fallon canceled a Tonight Show taping to be by her side. “Jimmy was at his mother’s bedside, along with her loved ones, when she passed away at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC,” said a family spokesperson. “Our prayers go out to Jimmy and his family as they go through this tough time.” In a June interview with Howard Stern, Fallon revealed that his mom was once a nun. In May, Fallon jokingly tweeted, "My mom and I were talking on the phone for the third time that day and she actually said, ‘We don’t talk enough.'" Earlier Saturday, Fallon bandleader Questlove appeared to offer condolences while being swarmed by paparazzi in Los Angeles. The death of Fallon’s mother comes less than two months after fellow NBC late-night host Carson Daly lost his mom. There’s no word yet on how Fallon’s mom’s death will impact The Tonight Show's taping schedule. Fallon had all-new episodes scheduled for the coming week. UPDATE: The Tonight Show has canceled this week's tapings and Stephen Colbert has offered his condolences.

Why Questlove made Keith Olbermann a 201-song hip-hop mixtape
The Tonight Show bandleader was taken aback by Olbermann’s tweet praising Eminem’s recent Trump smackdown in which the former MSNBC said, “After 27 years of doubts about rap I am now an Eminem fan. Best political writing of the year, period.” So Questlove responded with “The Keith O Challenge,” resulting in a 21-song playlist for Olbermann. “Saying you ignored rap for 27 years is basically saying you're indifferent to the very black lives you champion on your platform,” Questlove wrote about Olbermann.
