John Lithgow to play Fox News' Roger Ailes on the big screen
When Lithgow was starring in his Emmy-winning role as Winston Churchill on Netflix's The Crown, he was repeatedly asked about comparisons to Gary Oldman's Churchill in the movie Darkest Hour. Now Lithgow will be playing Roger Ailes on the big screen, while another big-name actor, Russell Crowe, portrays the Fox News founder on television, on the Showtime limited series based on the book The Loudest Voice in the Room. While the TV series is focused on Ailes' rise, the movie, co-starring Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron and Margot Robbie, is focused on the whistle-blowers who accused Ailes of promoting and participating in a Fox News culture of sexual misconduct.

John Oliver's gift of Russell Crowe's jockstrap couldn't stop an Alaska Blockbuster store from closing
Two of the last American Blockbuster video stores, both located in Alaska, will shut their doors soon, leaving the last remaining store in the video rental chain in Oregon. In May, one of the Alaska Blockbuster stores put Crowe's jockstrap on display from the movie Cinderella Man that Last Week Tonight paid $7,000 for at the actor's "Divorce Auction" to help the store stave off streaming services. It's likely that the jockstrap will end up back in the possession of Last Week Tonight.

Russell Crowe to star as Roger Ailes in Showtime limited series
The Oscar-winning actor will play the disgraced Fox News founder and former boss, who died last year less than a year after being forced out due to a massive sexual misconduct scandal. Crowe will star as Ailes on the eight-part limited series based on the Gabriel Sherman book The Loudest Voice in the Room: How the Brilliant, Bombastic Roger Ailes Built Fox News--and Divided a Country. “In many ways, the collision between the media and politics has come to define the world we live in today,” said Showtime Networks president and CEO David Nevins in a statement. “We’ve seen this phenomenon depicted on screen as far back as the story of Charles Foster Kane, and it finds contemporary embodiment in the rise and fall of Roger Ailes. With Russell Crowe in the lead role, this limited series promises to be a defining story for this era.”
