Late-night writers aren't happy that President Trump held a rare press conference so close to taping time
Trump held a rare solo press conference late this afternoon that was described as "rambling" and "rage-filled" and "memorably unhinged." Late Night writer Sal Gentile, who is in charge of Seth Meyers' "A Closer Look" segments, likely spoke for many late-night writers when he tweeted: "writers at late night shows when trump holds a press conference half an hour before taping" while retweeting an old Lady Gaga exasperation tweet. Jimmy Kimmel also weighed in: "This is the very definition of "ranting and raving". This man should be on a street corner shouting at cars." UPDATE: Late Show with Stephen Colbert writer Ariel Dumas tweets: "I hope you watch @colbertlateshow tonight! The entire staff scrambled to get that batsh*t crazy presser in the show. Brilliant teamwork and hustle from everyone in every department. That nonsense barrage was STILL happening when @StephenAtHome walked onstage, but we did it!" SECOND UPDATE: Late Night executive producer Mike Shoemaker tweets: "That Trump press conference went from 5pm to eternity and we tape at 6:30 but still the Closer Look team managed to get some of the insanity in for tonight. Shout out to all of them and MVP @salgentile."

Seth Meyers discussed with MSNBC's Chris Hayes the Late Night writer who ties them together
Writer Sal Gentile is the person chiefly responsible for Meyers' "Closer Look" segments, having previously worked as a producer on Hayes' MSNBC show . As Late Night producer Mike Shoemaker explains, "30 Rock full circle: @salgentile trains with @chrislhayes then he writes Closer Looks for @sethmeyers who goes on @allinwithchris to talk about @salgentile. It’s like how corruption works except the opposite."
