Jerry Springer's Judge Jerry court show announced for fall 2019
The news that Springer is headed back to daytime television comes six months after The Jerry Springer Show was canceled after a 27-year run. Springer is expected to return to many of the same stations that hosted his syndicated show. NBCUniversal has sold Judge Jerry to stations covering 75% of U.S. TV households. "For the first time in my life, I am going to be called honorable," said Springer, who earned his J.D. degree from Northwestern University and previously worked as a lawyer. "My career is coming full circle, and I finally get to put my law degree to use after all these years." NBCUniversal said Judge Jerry will be a traditional court show, in which Springer will “render a verdict with a fair yet firm hand and always leave litigants with a dose of classic Springer wisdom.” New York Post first reported plans for Judge Jerry last month. Variety said the new show is "an effort to NBCUniversal to capitalize on Springer’s popularity in a new format that may not be as much of a turn-off to major advertisers."

The former host of The Jerry Springer Show is expected to return to daytime TV next fall for a courtroom show that handles small-claims cases, according to The New York Post. NBCUniversal is producing the series that will feature the 74-year-old Springer, a former attorney who graduated from Northwestern University's law school, in a black robe behind a desk. The Post reports Judge Jerry is "expected to incorporate some elements of his notoriously rowdy current program, including a raucous, fist-pumping studio audience breaking into chants of 'Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!' and Springer ending the show with his signature line, 'Take care of yourself, and each other.'” The Jerry Springer Show was canceled earlier this year, ending its 27-year run in July.

Jerry Springer: The Opera returns to New York City, but it's "stuck in a damning time warp"

The British musical based on The Jerry Springer Show premiered way back in 2003, and its tap-dancing Ku Klux Klan and reveling in "chicks with a d*ck" seems to be out of place in 2018. "Regardless of the language, or the musical’s ranging moral compass, Jerry Springer: The Opera’s biggest problem is now time, and being outpaced by it," says Tim Teeman. "To run the show now, without mention of Donald Trump, without any recognition of the political and cultural landscape of now, almost invalidates it. We are told it is set 'sometime in the fairly recent past.' You wouldn’t know it."
