Jane Leeves talks joining The Resident, says she would "jump at the chance" to return for a Frasier revival
Source: TV Insider
The British actress says she was "surprised" that The Resident wanted her to play a brilliant orthopedic surgeon, a role that would add "a bit of humor" to the medical drama. "I love this character," she says. "She’s assertive without being aggressive, and her greatest joy is being able to fix her patients." As for a potential Frasier revival, Leeves says: "Of course I’d jump at the chance to work with any of those people again. Peri (Gilpin) is my best friend — she’s with me right now."

The Resident Season 2 will focus more into medical errors, despite complaints from doctors
“Something we want to consistently do — which I think we did last year, but will do more this year — is adding the elements of what happens in the medical world,” says showrunner Todd Harthan of the medical drama, returning tonight to Fox. “The things that the audience isn’t privy to or isn’t aware of that we kind of build into dramatic stories. We’re leaning heavily into that.”

Jenna Dewan lands on Fox's The Resident in a recurring role
The host and mentor on NBC's World of Dance and the star of the drama Mixtape that Netflix recently picked up has added another job to her busy schedule. According to TVLine, she'll recur on the Fox medical drama The Resident in Season 2 as a "sharp and sophisticated medical device rep with an ability to connect with just about anybody. A former dancer, Julian got her life back with the help of a device, and now she’s passionate about helping others do the same. Throughout the season, Julian gradually becomes aware of the lack of transparency in her chosen field and realizes there may be dangerous issues ahead." Dewan's Mixtape was originally made as a Fox pilot, so her Resident role will be a reunion of sorts.

Have we reached "Peak MD"? Broadcast TV could have as many as six medical dramas next season
NBC's Ryan Eggold-led drama New Amsterdam joins a crowded network medical drama field consisting of The Resident, Grey's Anatomy, The Good Doctor, Chicago Med and -- should it be renewed -- Code Black. "So why did the network feel the need to order up 10 cc’s of another medical drama STAT?" says Jennifer Maas of the New Amsterdam pickup. "Well, that’s a good question, as the Nielsen numbers for this genre are all over the place, meaning it could either become a hit, provide the network with steady mid-range ratings, or tread water each week."

"Playing a borderline sociopath was one of my favorite experiences, but it also took a toll. With Nic, I get to tap into more of my true self. Her maternal side spoke to the stage of life I’m in now."
