Fox developing an animated Alaska family comedy from Bob's Burgers team starring Jenny Slate, Nick Offerman, Will Forte and Megan Mullally
Paul Rust, Dulcé Sloan and Aparna Nancherla are also lending their voices to The Great North, which Bob's Burgers creator Loren Bouchard is working on with his executive producers Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux. According to Deadline, "The Great North follows the Alaskan adventures of the Tobin family as single dad Beef does his best to keep his weird bunch of kids close, especially as the artistic dreams of his only daughter Judy lead her away from the family fishing boat and into the glamorous world of the local mall."

Will Forte reveals what would've happened on The Last Man on Earth had it not been canceled
Forte also reflected on his Fox sitcom in an interview with the Good One podcast: "The thing I am really proud of is the fact that we were just able to bounce through so many different tones," says Forte. "That moment where Mary Steenburgen reveals to Kristen Schaal that she used to have a kid and the kid died is an incredible acting moment. To be able to have the show go to places like that, I am really proud that our writers were able to create a show where you can mess around so much and then at the same time do millions of fart jokes."

Will Forte thanks Last Man on Earth fans: "It was an experience that I’ll cherish forever"
"Sad news yesterday," he tweeted this morning. "As many have already heard, the show is not being brought back for a fifth season. On behalf of our little family, thank you for all of your support."

Will Forte's The Last Man on Earth cliffhanger ending was actually the perfect sendoff
According to Jesse David Fox, Forte treated nearly every episode as a series finale. He adds: "When the news of cancellation came out, I emailed Forte’s team, asking if he wanted to reveal how season five would’ve started. But in the time since (and because they said he was unavailable), I’ve decided that I don’t want to know. Because that uncertainty is at the core of the show. We’ll never know the fate of our main characters because there is no way for them to ever know their own fates. Almost every single episode of Last Man on Earth ended with a cliffhanger, partly to get people to keep watching, and partly because that’s truthful to the story they’re telling."

Fox cancels The Last Man on Earth after four seasons
Will Forte's Fox comedy will end with last Sunday's cliffhanger season finale. January Jones announced the cancelation news on Instagram, saying: "To our @lastmanfox family..it’s been an amazing 4yrs, thank you for all the hard work, we love you and will miss seeing you every day!" In an interview published earlier this week with EW, Forte said of the decision to end Season 4 on a big cliffhanger: "If we got a fifth season, we’d probably be thinking that was our last season. Early in the season, we were thinking, 'Oh, let’s try to find a way to wrap it up just in case.' And then we thought later, 'Let’s not put that pressure on ourselves. Let’s just write a good episode and try to do what we do,' because we didn’t want to make it easy on them. If they want to cancel us, that’s fine, go ahead and cancel us, but we’re not going to put a little bow on the show for them." ALSO: Could Hulu revive Last Man on Earth?

Are you the last person watching The Last Man on Earth?
"Sometimes I feel I am the last man on Earth watching The Last Man on Earth," says Ben Yagoda. "The ratings of Fox’s post-apocalyptic sitcom, which aired the last episode of its fourth season on Sunday, started out low and then descended. This season it averaged about 1.97 million viewers per airing, worse than every single show on any network other than the CW, with the exception of its Fox stablemates Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, and The Exorcist." He adds: "Why have I and my 2 million-odd fellow Last Man fans kept watching? Speaking for myself, because the show is smart, goofy, attractively filmed, crammed with satisfying Easter eggs and callbacks, absolutely nonaspirational, superbly acted, sneak-up-on-you funny, and, most important, almost aggressively original."

The Last Man on Earth still manages to push its creative boundaries
“The premise isn’t an easy one to work with,” says Lea Palmieri, “but somehow The Last Man on Earth writers have figured out a way to expand their world without breaking the rules they’ve set in place, or eliciting skepticism or anything close to boredom from invested viewers. This season alone has delved into topics such as feminism, former cartel leaders, and parenting. Bit of a variety there, wouldn’t you say? But, just like the extreme measures they’re taking when it comes to potentially gruesome moments, it all seems to make sense.”
